I'm a scientist, interested in birdsong and the behaviour of wild animals. I am fascinated by how and why birds sing, and the effect that human noise is having on their singing behaviour. My scientific curiousity has also led me to investigate the behaviour of microbes, fish, and humans.
I am currently Education Secretary of ASAB (the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour). We provide free lesson plans, teaching resources, and careers information, all of which can be downloaded from our website.
I regularly give talks, usually on the science of birdsong, to local groups of the U3A, RSPB and others. Please get in touch if you would like to know more or to book me. Further details and a list of my regular talks can be found on the Public Talks page.
I have developed a number of word search games for Android to help while away long journeys (and lockdown at home). There are two main themes, animals and literature. They are all available on Google Play and a full list can be found on the GiffordGames website.
